I have to write a letter of recommendation for adoption. I just started online college and it has been a while since I have been to school. Any help would be appreciated.
My name is Cierra Merritt and I am writing this letter of recommendation for Debra and Thad Morton. I have known with Debra and Thad Morton for twenty-four years because they are my parents. Through the years I have learned how special both of them are. Both of my parents have overcome so many obstacles and they turned out to be wonderful people because of those obstacles.
Debra and her husband, Thad, have been married for twenty-eight years. I have witnessed first-hand the love and attention they show towards their three kids and three grandchildren. They have provided us with many opportunities. But even more importantly, Debra and Thad are truly hands-on parents. My mom has helped my brothers and I through so much, even if she thought we were wrong. For example, my brother got into some trouble in high school with some other boys and no one got into trouble except for my bother. My mom talked to the lawyer, the judge, and the other parents to get everyone straight. She worked real hard to make sure it would not happen again and make sure the boys knew that what they did was very wrong. My brother has never gotten into trouble again.
Debra use to work with special education students at the middle school before she retired. She is excellent with the students. She goes out of her way for the children. Debra not only teaches, she shows the students about life and how to love and care for each other. The students always say, “She is our favorite teacher.” Debra plans special outings for all the school students every semester. She has even taken money out of her own pocket to make sure they have a great field trip. The students come to Debra with their school and personal problems because they trust her over everyone else.
Not only is Debra great with her grandchildren; she is one of the most compassionate people I have ever met. Right now, my Grandpa just found out that he has 3-6 months to live from lymph node cancer and my Grandma died in 2005 from lung cancer. My mom is always the first one to be there no matter if she has to take off of work or cancel a meeting. Even though my grandparents have three other kids and many grown grandchildren that can help, my mom will do anything for anyone.
Debbie got into an accident about ten years ago and she can’t have any more kids on her own so they decided to start accepting foster kids. They both love that so much, but it breaks their heart whenever one of the kids gets adopted or has to go back into the system. Ever since my brothers and I have moved out and started our own families, Debbie and Thad have been lonely so adding a new member to this family would be wonderful.
Thad was adopted when he was 8 years old, so he has firsthand knowledge of what adoption is like. He will be able to relate to the baby on a more personal level and he will be a wonderful father because of his own personal experiences with adoption. He will be able to help the child cope with coming into a new family and moving away from the life they have known. Every since I could remember, he has always talked about how he would like to adopt a child one day. My dad has always wanted a big family. He has always told my mom that he would like to have five or six kids.
Debra and Thad have three grandsons. Debra keeps my 2-year-old son, Hagen, because I go to school full-time. Since his birth in 2008, Debra has decided to leave her job and become a full time stay-at-home grandma. They spend their days going to the library for story time, an indoor inflatable gym, the zoo, the park, and to Thad’s work to have lunch. Hagen knows the alphabet, how to count to 50. Debra takes the time to ensure she is giving Hagen the best education possible before he starts Kindergarten in a few years.
The baby they receive will be a lucky baby. It will be coming into a loving family with two great parents, two older brothers, one older sister, and three nephews who will love her/him. As they wait for the adoption to come through, I will be praying for their dreams to come true.
Debra and Thad Morton are ideal candidates for adoption. They have already raised three children and have helped so many foster kids get on the right track. Helping this couple by adding a permanent new member to this family would make my parents so happy.
