First, I went on a vacation and left Maria (my indoor sunflower) with a self watering system, the WaterMe®. Second, I returned, but several of her leaves were dying, and I noticed she had a smell. I pucked off her dying leaves and buried them in her soil. Third, I discovered she had algae, so I fed her a bleach solution (1 part bleach and 18 parts water). A few days later, it looked like the algae had died. Finally, today, I saw a little transparent/white worm, about 1 cm long and thread-like. Because Maria grows inside the home, I had to throw her away.
So:
1) What kind of worm was it?
2) Was the worm good or bad for Maria’s soil? And, can it harm people?
3) Where and how did it come to be in the pot? It’s a white pot of about a 5 in. diameter, and the soil came from a packaged pack from Europe.
4) Were there more than one worm in the pot? And, if there were, might some of the worms have climbed out into the home?
Most of all, Thanks.
I guess it could be a fungus gnat larvae, but I didn’t remember that it had a black head.

i recently purchased some red haired skunk seeds and they are indoor strain. is it possible to still grow them outside? and what soil or fertilizer should i buy?
I have had a beautiful Schefflera plant for almost 10 yrs. In that past year and a half I have had trouble keeping it healthy. This is an indoor plant. I keep it in a moderately lit, warm room. I water it once a week & I allow for the soil to dry in between waterings. The trouble began when I transplanted it a year and a half ago. It started to loose leaves & have drying of the branches. I thought that I had revived it back to health over the summer, it had new branches growing & new leaves. Now in the last month, the new branches and leaves have died. All of the leaves that are left have turned withered & drooping. I only have one branch left! I transplanted it again and put the only surviving branch in a pot of its own, but it seems to be getting worse. I received this plant after the passing of my grandfather, as it was his tree, and I am desperate to get it back to health. The root system seems very small for a tree of its height, roughly 3 1/2ft tall. PLEASE HELP!!!
The plant does not have yellowing of the leaves & it was just replanted on Sunday Feb. 22, 2009. The root system looks very small, as I’ve mentioned above.
If I cut the plant all the way down, won’t that kill my last surviving branch?
The portion of the plant which was dried to the point that the branches snapped easily, I did not replant, unless it will sprout new growths???? How much trimming down are we talking to revive it?
